if the person face the environment regularly, i would said he or she will slowly adapt to the environment and become numb to the environment. According to self-adaptation theory, a person will slowly adapt to the environment if he or she face the same environment regularly.
For example, the normal atmospheric pressure is about 10,000 pascal. when we birth from our mother body, we need to face this large atmospheric pressure. At that moment, we feel it is very difficult to adapt to the environment. Doctor and nurse need to take care of the baby at that time to help him to adapt to the environment pressure. By day to day, our body gradually adapt to this atmospheric pressure. Now, we can move easily, jump here and jump there etc. We cannot even feel any pressure in our daily life except for mountain climbing or diving.
Therefore, i would said human body can adapt to the excruciation. this adaptation is not just physiological adaptation, but also psychological adaptation. Example of psychological adaptation, a children will not going to afraid of canning if he or she being canning all the time.
